Did you make it to Comiket this summer?

Comic Market 108 (C108), the 108th edition of Comiket, Japan's biggest doujinshi (self-published comics) market, was held over two days, Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Tokyo Big Sight. According to the after-report from the Comic Market Preparatory Committee, the organizer, attendance was 130,000 each day, for a two-day total of 260,000.

Summer Comiket lands right on Obon (Japan's summer holiday season, when people head home to family), so I go home every year and have never once made it to Comiket. And at the end of the year, I'm back at my parents' place again (honestly, following it only through the numbers kind of stings).

So this article only covers what's written in the organizer's official announcements.

C108's numbers, from the organizer

Here are the main numbers in the after-report.

  • Dates: Saturday, August 15 to Sunday, August 16, 2026
  • Venue: Tokyo Big Sight (excluding East Halls 4–6) and the TFT Hall (in Tokyo Fashion Town, a building next to the venue)
  • Circle spaces: about 23,000
  • Attendance: 130,000 on the 15th, 130,000 on the 16th
  • Exhibiting companies: 121

The organizer reports the size of the event in "circle spaces" (a circle is a group or person selling their own works), and C108 had about 23,000 spaces over the two days. 121 companies had booths too.

C108 was held while East Halls 4–6 were out of use because of large-scale renovation work at Tokyo Big Sight. That's the very first thing the organizer's event information mentions, too.

50th anniversary goods were on sale at the venue, and on July 27, the "Comic Market 50th Anniversary History" was published on the official site.

Compared with last summer and last winter

A year earlier, C106 (August 16 and 17, 2025) drew a total of 250,000 people over two days, according to the organizer's after-report. So C108 was up by 10,000. C106 also had about 23,000 circle spaces, so it was about the same size.

Winter's C107 (December 30 and 31, 2025) had 150,000 each day, for a total of 300,000. In the C106 report, the organizer wrote that in recent years, the winter event has tended to draw more people.

So these numbers make more sense comparing summer with summer, rather than summer with winter.

Side by side, they look like this.

Chart of Comiket attendance. C106 (summer 2025, 2 days): 250,000 total. C107 (winter 2025, 2 days): 150,000 each day, 300,000 total. C108 (summer 2026, 2 days): 130,000 each day, 260,000 total. C108 had about 23,000 circle spaces and 8,865 total changing room registrations over the two days. The next event, C109, runs for three days, December 29–31, 2026.

For now, only the numbers section of the C108 after-report is up. The look-back write-up the organizer does for each event hasn't been posted yet.

Changing room registrations for cosplay

For COTPIA, the numbers I really care about are the cosplay ones. The after-report lists changing room registrations by day and by gender.

  • 15th: 1,638 men, 2,912 women
  • 16th: 1,658 men, 2,657 women

Added up, that's 8,865 in total over the two days.

At winter's C107, the organizer's report put cosplayer registrations at about 13,500 in total over two days, the highest since the pandemic.

Summer numbers coming in lower than winter seems to happen every year. The C106 report has a line saying, "going from winter to summer, changing room registrations inevitably drop."

Cosplaying in midsummer looks seriously tough, and yet this many people show up every single time (people rocking their costumes in that heat are so cool❣️)

C109 runs for three days, December 29–31

On March 24, 2026, the organizer announced the dates for C109.

  • Dates: Tuesday, December 29 to Thursday, December 31, 2026
  • Circle setup day: Monday, December 28
  • Venue: Tokyo Big Sight (East Halls 4–6 can't be used because of renovation work)

Apparently it's the first time since C97 in winter 2019 that the event runs longer than two days. According to the organizer, the reasons are that winter's C107 got applications for 30,000-plus spaces and still had nearly 10,000 spaces lose out in the lottery, and that the reduced number of halls from the renovation work continues through the rest of this fiscal year.

Running for three days is "for this winter only, for now," and they say they'll look at how application numbers move before deciding what comes after that.

Circle applications for C109 closed already: online on August 24, and by mail postmarked by August 19. According to the organizer, details for general attendees, like how to get in, are due around early November.

The event after that, C110, doesn't have dates yet, and the venue is listed as all of Tokyo Big Sight.

The 29th through the 31st overlaps completely with my trip home (those three days at the end of the year are the peak of my lounging-at-my-parents'-place season, too).

The organizer also has an official channel on Niconico (a Japanese video-sharing site), so as a Niconico fan, I'm thinking following their updates there could be a nice option.

About this article
